Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools in Scholarly Publishing
The Journal «DentistKazakhstan» follows internationally recognized standards of publication ethics and transparency regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and automated text-generation technologies, including but not limited to ChatGPT and other large language models. This policy is aligned with the recommendations of COPE and with publishing policies adopted by Elsevier, Springer Nature, and MDPI.
Acceptable Use of AI Tools
Authors may use AI tools solely to support the preparation of manuscripts, for purposes such as:
- language editing and grammatical correction;
- improvement of clarity, readability, and stylistic consistency;
- assistance with text organization at the drafting stage.
The use of AI tools must not replace human authorship, scientific reasoning, or intellectual contribution. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all content in the manuscript.
Prohibited Use of AI Tools
Artificial intelligence tools must not:
- be credited as authors or co-authors;
- generate or fabricate research data, results, images, tables, or analyses;
- substitute for critical interpretation of data or formulation of scientific conclusions;
- produce false, misleading, or unverifiable references;
- be used to circumvent plagiarism detection, authorship criteria, or ethical requirements.
Accountability for all aspects of the manuscript rests entirely with the named authors.
Disclosure of AI Use
Authors are required to disclose the use of AI tools in manuscript preparation in an appropriate section of the article (e.g., Acknowledgements or Additional Information).
Recommended statement:
“Artificial intelligence tools (e.g., ChatGPT) were used solely for language editing and improvement of textual clarity. All scientific content, interpretations, and conclusions were developed by the authors, who take full responsibility for the manuscript.”
Non-disclosure of AI use may be considered a violation of publication ethics.
Editorial and Peer-Review Oversight
The Editorial Board and peer reviewers may:
- assess the transparency and appropriateness of AI tool usage;
- request clarification regarding the extent of AI involvement;
- reject manuscripts where AI tools have been used inappropriately or without disclosure.
AI usage is evaluated within the framework of the Journal’s policies on authorship, originality, data integrity, and ethical compliance.
Alignment with International Publishing Standards
This policy conforms to:
- COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidance;
- Elsevier’s policy on the use of AI in scientific writing;
- Springer Nature’s editorial policies on generative AI;
- MDPI’s guidelines on AI-assisted manuscript preparation.
The Journal reserves the right to revise this policy in response to technological developments and updates to international publishing standards.
