Introduction. The prevalence of dental diseases among children remains high, particularly in the context of insufficient preventive measures and low parental engagement in maintaining oral hygiene. Early detection and a systematic approach to prevention are key to preserving oral health in school-aged children.

Objective. To assess the dental status of children aged 6–10 years attending a private school in Almaty and to evaluate parental commitment to the prevention of dental diseases.

Materials and Methods. A clinical examination was conducted on 150 children aged 6 to 10 years. The prevalence of major dental pathologies was assessed. Additionally, a parental questionnaire was used to evaluate awareness and preventive practices in families.

Results and Discussion. A high prevalence of dental pathology was identified: dental caries was found in 93% of children, chronic catarrhal gingivitis in 55.1%, dentoalveolar anomalies in 28%, and non-carious enamel lesions in 6.9%. Oral mucosal and soft tissue abnormalities were diagnosed in 14.7% of the participants. Only one-third of the children regularly visited a dentist, and oral hygiene was monitored in fewer than half of the families.

Conclusion. The findings highlight the urgent need for a comprehensive approach to the prevention of dental diseases in schoolchildren. This should include educational programs for parents and students, regular preventive check-ups, and interdisciplinary collaboration among healthcare and educational professionals.
